Gothia Akademi - ACTP step 1

Catalytic Coaching®

In February 2019 we are welcoming the first set of students for a coach training taught entirely in English. This is an English version of the 9-day training "Diplomerad Coach" that people are already traveling literary a thousand miles to attend. In 2019 it will be available for non-Swedish speakers.

Gothia Akademis is one of few training providers in the world that offers an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) that fulfills the training requirement all the way up to the highest credential level – ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) – as defines by the worlds major organisation for coaches and coach training providers – International Coach Federation (ICF). This training is the first of three steps of Gothia Akademis rigorous ACTP.

Why do people travel literary a thousand miles to attend training at Gothia Akademi?

Quality of training

We will never claim that by attending this coach training, you will attend the best coach training in Scandinavia, Europe and the world (even if that was possible to measure in some objective way). But we will keep on claiming that we sincerely strive to refine every aspect of the training step by step. And we know that the further people travel the higher their expectations will be. Thus, training in English with an international audience will force us to be even better – if we don’t, people will not bother to travel here.

Quality of trainers

Our prime concern is student value. We frequently let our students grade, and give feedback to, the trainers at Gothia Akademi. This might not be the best setup for a trainer that wants to feel grandiose, but it is an excellent setup for a trainer that wants to improve and become an excellent deliverer of student value. We aim only to have trainers certified as ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) on this training and the trainer in charge of the majority of the training days (most likely six days) will be an MCC, an excellent trainer with working proficiency in English. However, there are going to be more than one trainer, and since MCC-certification is no guarantee for quality as a trainer, we will not pick trainers solely based on certification-level as a coach. Of course, it’s nice if your trainer is an MCC, or Ph.D., or president of the International Coach Federation, or just famous. And it might be the case that some trainers with that kind of baggage will be your trainers. But if that is the case, it is because they are genuine human beings and skilled trainers. Student value is our prime concern.

Quality of material

The material you will be using was first created during three intense months in 2004. Then it has been tested by student and trainers for literary thousands of hours –  and gradually improved and refined twice a year – every year since 2004. This means that we have a material, not perfect, but worked through so well that we are confident that your book from Gothia Akademi will be a sharp and effective tool in your hands.

Quality of peers

Anyone traveling a thousand miles are, in almost every single case, doing so because this is something they really want to learn and become good at – and as a consequence of that – have spent a lot of time researching what training will be the best for them. You will have peers that are just as eager as you are. And that makes up a fantastic learning environment.

Quality of skills acquired

Quality of training, trainers, material, and peers will give you the best possible position for really learning to do what you want to be able to do.  In the end, skill is the ultimate quality measurement of training that claims to be practical. This is a practical training.

Quality of training certificate

The worlds largest professional organization for coaches and coach trainers are International Coach Federation (ICF). It is a non-profit-organisation and no other organization is even close in size and global professional awareness. Nothing is more important than skill, but having the skills you acquire at Gothia Akademi accompanied by our training certificate gives you a high quality “paper value” globally recognized.

What extra value will training in english add?

Vocabulary for international work

It is easier for you to translate the things you will learn in English, into your native language, than the other way around. Taking this training in English means that you, without any extra effort, will get the vocabulary you need for using your new tools in an international context.

An international network

At Gothia Akademi, people find business opportunities, new colleagues, friends and now and then –  love.

Experiencing a part of the North European history

“Gothia” is a 2000 years old Latin name referring to the south of Sweden – today the area is called “Götaland” – the land of Götar. Göteborg was built in the early 17th century as a defense of Gothia against what is now our friends – the Danes. The city was founded in 1621 (celebrating 400 years in 2021) by King Gustav II Adolf the Great during a time when Sweden and Finland was part of the same kingdom (13th century until 1809). Gustav II Adolf, the Greats elite cavalry forces from Finnland was called “the Hakkapeliittas,” a name derived from their war cry “hakkaa päälle pohjan poika” (cut them down – son of the north). “Hakkaa päälle” is still used for cheering by supporters to the highly successful Finnish national hockey team. When building Gothenburg the king used Dutch engineers as they were well known for their skills in building a city were a lot of canals were needed. Even though people have been living in the area for at least 8000 years, the first settlers in “Göteborg” were Dutch. Many successful merchants came from the UK and many contemporary institutions in Gothenburg stem from that period. The small chateau “Överås,” where you will have your training at Gothia Akademi, was built in the 1860-is by James Dickson (a highly successful businessman with Scottish origin) in English style by an English architect. The name of the road where you find Gothia Akademi is “Danska vägen” (The Danish road) and the road was originally used for Danish post deliveries that were not passing by the fortified old town – due to the, at that time, “undeveloped friendship” between Swedes and Danes. King Gustav II Adolf the Greats mother was from Germany, so Gustav Adolf learned German as his first language. The church in old Gothenburg is still called “Tyska kyrkan” (the German church) and is located next door to the city museum where one can find a longboat used by Vikings – among many other things. Swedes and Norwegians have always been kinsmen and formed a union under the former French marshal of Napoleon – Jean Baptist Bernadotte – crowned king Carl XIV Johan. The most likely place to find Norwegians nowadays, in the Gothenburg area, is in the beautiful archipelago during summer vacations.

Traveling to Gothenburg and Gothia Akademi is experiencing a part of the North European history.
